About

Our Work

As a designer and preservationist, I seek projects that speak to our cultural heritage and to a unique sense of beauty and place. My preservation projects have exposed me to the inherent aesthetic and intelligent craftsmanship of traditional building methods. Structures have a story to tell in terms of proportion, response to the elements and human need. This exposure has provided me with an appreciation of what lasts and why it’s good. It also informs all my design work, whether a rehab of a historic building or a new modern structure.

Prior to forming TURK architecture, I was a founding principal of TTL-Architects for 18 years. I have also served many years on the Boards of Architalx, Portland Society of Architects and the Portland Historic Preservation Commission. My work has been recognized by the Maine Chapter of the American Institute of Architects, the National Trust for Historic Preservation and Greater Portland Landmarks.
